Merino wool is a natural material that's fantastic for technical outdoor wear-especially for things like base layers and socks! With the Atelier 13 Socks, Italian brand Castelli produces a women's-specific model sized for women's feet. And while most of Castelli's men's/unisex merino sock offerings come in black, white, or gray, the women get some more exciting and vibrant color options, too.

While merino wool really excels in cold conditions, because it's so breathable, it's great for mild days too. Castelli's Atelier 13 Socks blend merino wool with synthetic materials for great stretch; excellent durability; lots of insulation; and terrific airflow, moisture wicking, and protection from the wind.

The 13 in the name refers to the length, in centimeters, of the cuff measured from the ankle-around 5 inches. These are a taller sock, especially by traditional European standards, and they go up to the base of your calf.
