Winter cycling socks used to be 9cm because they’d always been that way...but we had cold feet. So we made some 12cm socks and they were much better. Then we went to 15cm, and they were better still. It seemed logical to go to 20cm, which is right at your calf and really helps keep your feet warm by keeping your entire lower leg warm.
